Lucinda Bird is a Eora based artist working at the intersection of printmaking, photography and installation. Bird employs her practice of collecting photographs found in junk shops to create archives of dislodged memories. Through the translation of these found photographs as both source and subject Bird speaks to the visual content of the familial archive as well as making broader observations about acts of performance, collecting, photography and archiving. Bird’s practice closely inspects the relationship between the image, object and the body in these acts.
Bird has shown commitment to her art practice, exhibiting in group exhibitions at established galleries such as Schmick Contemporary, Chrissie Cotter and Bankstown Art Centre. In 2023 Bird's first solo exhibition “Baby, Doll, Pet” was held at Brunswick Street Gallery. Since graduating with a BFA (Printmaking) at the National Art School Bird has been awarded a residency at Megalo Print Studio, received highly commended in the Lloyd Rees Youth Art Award and has work acquired by the National Art School Collections. Bird will complete a Masters of Fine Arts at the National Art School in November 2024.
